FRIDAY
Memphis is a musical by David Bryan (music and lyrics) and Joe DiPietro (lyrics and book). It is loosely based on Memphis disc jockey Dewey Phillips, one of the first white DJs to play black music in the 1950s. It played on Broadway from October 19, 2009, to August 5, 2012. The production won four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

This musical looks at a time when the music business had drawn the line between Music and Race!

First Fridays are a cultural experience of music, art, food, and shopping on every First Friday year round. Shop local artists and a diverse array of food trucks - all here on the Vine. All of the neighbors in the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District present lively entertainment! Stop in to the American Jazz Museum and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, check out live music at the Juke House, Blue Room, Mutual Musicians Foundation, Vine Street Studio, and dance at Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey.

The official kickoff parade to celebrate the spirit of African American pride and freedom returns June 2nd to the 18th & Vine District.

Not just any jazz night though...we will be joined by the world renowned keyboard-master himself, Max Groove!!! Former radio personality and dj, Max has been instrumental (see what we did there!) in the bringing to life the music of the Four Tops, Chaka Khan, Count Basie, Dave Koz, The Temptations, and many others he has worked with and played alongside throughout the years!
