Letters From Freedom Summer is a collaboratively developed play with music, based on the heroic 1964 non violent student movement that brought black and white young people together from across the country and helped changed the way blacks in Mississippi became able to vote and participate in our democratic society. Throughout its development, as a commission of UMKC Theatre, it has been also able to benefit from two years of script development workshops involving students of UMKC’s professional training program.

Audra McDonald is unparalleled in the breadth and versatility of her artistry, as both a singer and an actress. Leave your judgements and stress at the door, we encourage authentic connections around here. We're creating a community. GLS members come to see familiar faces but always leave meeting new people along the way. If you're new to Kansas City or just looking for something outside of your circle, come vibe with us.

Peacemaking is a skill that requires practice and repetition. Without it, it is difficult to know how to respond when encountering various forms of conflict or violence in Kansas City. Join us for lunch and an interactive workshop aimed at equipping people with practical tools to disrupt, distract and diffuse tense situations, both around the dinner table as well as out in the larger community. For our shared meal, we will be having a pizza, so if you're able, please bring a side item or dessert to share.
