In celebration of Charlie Parker's birthday, the American Jazz Museum and First Friday on the Vine present a preview of DeBorah "Dee" Williams's record collection. This preview is an exploration of young Charlie Parker’s life in Kansas City and his revolutionary jazz music in a one-day exhibition of the complete Dial Record Collection (Jazz to Classical). We will also welcome Chef Anita Moore of The Southern Steakhouse and Oyster Bar by Soiree to 18th & Vine.
Kansas City Taste, brought to you byCapitol Federal, is a two-day food and music festival in downtown Kansas City at the historic Union Station on Friday, August 3rd and 4th. Kansas City Taste will feature more than 30 culinary establishments who will show off their most creative dishes.

August 4th & 5th
This event is to bring awareness surrounding current issues regarding privacy and surveillance and their importance. We will explore how surveillance was used to spy on Black Lives Matter activist and how surveillance is currently being used to effectively spy on the average citizen.
The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) will host the 2018 Heart of America Hot Dog Festival, presented by Hy-Vee, Farmland and Pepsi, Saturday, August 4 near the 18th & Vine Historic District. The event features live entertainment, food, and more. Created by the NLBM in 2013, the Hot Dog Festival celebrates the historical connection between our national pastime and baseball fan’s favorite ballpark food; the hot dog. Proceeds benefit the NLBM.

This event is open to all ages, so come out and enjoy the day with your friends and family. There will be live music, cold drinks, games, bars and all of the grilled cheese you can eat!

Summerfest is an opportunity for school children of all ages to celebrate and prepare for the arrival of the new school year. This event will feature live entertainment, athletic competitions, educational games and free food. In preparation for school, KCPS students will have the opportunity to receive a free backpack, school supplies, athletic physicals, and immunizations and a KCPS T-Shirt. Summerfest is open to the community and will include a variety of community resources and children’s activities
