FRIDAY
Southwest X Central Street Fest SWXC Street Fest is a community art and music event in support of Imagine That!. This summer’s event will mark our 4th year of putting on this street festival! We will be showing work and performances of both our artists and local individual artists, giving them equal opportunity and shared space to present. Featured in the gallery space will be an exhibition of fiber and sculpture work made by Imagine That! artists. There will also be a fashion show and live music outside. Our goal in hosting this event is to promote awareness of our program, the artists we support, and foster new and exciting connections to the arts community and population of Kansas City.
Use Words: Vigil On Violence A crucial aspect of The Wordshop mission is to keep societal events fresh by continually entering them into public discourse. On First Friday in the Crossroads, August 5, The Wordshop will host an open mic for poets, spoken word artists, and others who want to use words to move people, to vent, and to grieve in response to the violent events on July 5, 6, and 7, in Baton Rouge, Falcon Heights, and Dallas, and the broader cultural significance of those events.
If you'll share a piece, arrive at 6p to add your name to the list. The open mic will last from 6:30-8 and is available to participants of all ages.
Urban Pop Urban Pop brings together a fresh mix of Street Art and Pop Art styles trending across the country. This exhibition features regional and national artists who use many different stylistic approaches to convey their thoughts on contemporary American culture. While the techniques range from stencils and spray paint, to pen and ink, and even to a more classical oil paint, each piece is bold, playful and direct. Plenum Space Gallery 504 E 18th St 6-10pm
